Dec. 1, 1998 - Approximately three months ago, a fellow horsewoman, Peggy Mills, suffered a severe head injury while on a trail ride. One moment life was good. What more could any of us ask than to be able to enjoy a beautiful day astride a horse? The next moment for Peggy was a catastrophic accident that changed an optimistic life to one of uncertainty. Peggy is making dramatic progress in her recovery, but she has a long road ahead of her. Whether Peggy will ever regain her full physical and mental capability will not be know for some time. Vince, Peggy's husband stands steadfastly by her thorough this ordeal which has tested them both physically, mentally, emotionally and financially.

The potential for financial devastation from the exhaustion of both personal and insurance resources, that can accompany such a traumatic incident, is what was in mind when the idea was conceived to establish a charitable trust for the any-one-of-us who could someday suffer just as serious and catastrophic a horse-related injury. It is not presumed that assistance from this trust could overcome all the difficulties that arise from such a devastating accident. But it is with the spirit of friends and neighbors helping his or her fellow human, especially one who shares a common interest and passion for "the horse", that this trust is being established.

Peggy may very well become the first recipient of trust assistance, but it is not intended for her sole benefit in the long run. All Nevada horsemen and horsewomen are encouraged to support their effort. It does not matter from which discipline you come or where your riding interest lies. The trust will be available to help any Nevada resident injured by a horse and whose insurance and financial capabilities are exhausted or insufficient to fully cover all the special needs that arise from a catastrophic accident such as what Peggy has suffered.

Please make the time and financial commitment to help a horse friend that is in need now or one that may need help in the future… Your contribution now will make you a 'Founding Supporter" of the "Nevada Horsemen's Catastrophic Injury Charitable Trust."

Applications for setting up the trust is in progress, and because this will take some time before approval is granted, The Reno Chapter of California Dresssage Society will accept donations earmarked for the sole purpose of establishing the Nevada Horsemen's' Catastrophic Injury Charitable Trust.
