| It Was A Gloomy Summer Hello! My name is Brandi and I'm fifteen years old. In the summer of 1997,
something happened that I will never forget. One of my favorite horses died. Kernel was one of the first horses I had ever had in my life. My parents already owned other horses, but this one was special and I will never forget him. He was a palomino gelding. My dad broke him when he was 12 years old. Kernel never wore a horseshoe in his life or even had to have his feet trimmed. My parents were out of town when I went out in the morning to feed and found him laying there dead. There was only 3 people I could call and luckily, one was Shirley Sepulveda. He was between 39 and 42 years old. I still haven't gotten over him yet. Even the mare we still own misses him a lot. She was with him since she was 6 months old. I am having trouble letting go of him because I did not get the chance to say good by. I was really frustrated when this happened because he was fine the day before. I called Shirley and she came and picked me up. Before I left with her, I covered my old friend up. My parents got my message as soon as they returned home that he had passed away. That night my dad went out and buried him. We both cried because Kernel was the last of the original bunch of horses. I made a tombstone for him so he would know that I would never forget him. He brought me a lot of fun and joy! By Brandi Blume |
