Lynn & the Hounds at Red Rock
THE BEGINNING:
The Red Rock Hounds pack was established in
November of 1980. Lynn Lloyd ran out of gas in Reno, Nevada just shortly before and
decided this would be a great place to operate a hunt. Since Red Rock is a little short on
foxes but long on coyotes, the chase was on for coyote scent. With the assistance of
Albert Schreck of the Los Altos Hounds, Lynn acquired twelve English hounds, the
foundation of the first fox hunt in the state of Nevada.
Hounds

Hunts were held twice a week, on Wednesdays
and Sundays. In the early days, a typical hunt went in twelve different directions, one
for each hound! In 1981, the hunt proudly boasted its first member.
In 1986 Scott Tepper joined Lynn as a joint
Master. In 1992 the continued growth of the hunt was marked by Marshall Ward
becoming the third joint Master in 1992.
HUNT:
The hunt meets at one of its eight fixtures
on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from early September until the end of March.
Horsemen from all over the United States
and other countries have come to ride with Lynn Lloyd and the Red Rock Hounds. The
experience is unlike hunting anywhere else in the world. Riding at a gallop in pursuit of
coyote scent across the high desert of Nevada, jumping sagebrush and man-made jumps,
climbing up the sides of mountains to rest for a moment on what feels like the top of the
world, only to gallop down the other side...that's hunting "Nevada style". The
hunt is geared for all levels of riders who want to experience the thrill of the hunt. If
someone doesn't jump, they can still hunt. Talk about a "natural high"...call
Lynn and talk to her about hunting with the Red Rock Hounds. It is one unforgettable,
exhilarating experience.
