Hunt History of the Red Rock Hounds
by Chrysann Collatos
The Red Rock Hounds were registered with the Masters of Foxhounds
Association in November of 1980, and recognized in 1987. With twelve English hounds
drafted from the Los Altos hunt, Lynn Lloyd founded the first foxhunt in the state of
Nevada. Lynn gained her early foxhunting experience in Britain in 1968, and founded her
first pack of foxhounds, the Berry Hollow Hunt, in Pennsylvania in1974.
While Lynn has remained huntsman since the Red Rock Hounds
inception, she was joined by two joint Masters of Foxhounds, Scott Tepper in 1986, and
Marshall Ward in 1992. The joint masters share the burden of managing the hunt
organization, ensuring good relationships with landowners and government officials who
oversee our hunt territory, and most importantly, guiding the development of our pack of
hounds.
Over the past 20 years, the Red Rock Hounds has developed a
prominent reputation through the efforts of the hunts masters and members to open
the publics eyes to the joy of fox hunting Nevada style. Every three years we enjoy
international attendance at the Pacific District meet which is hosted by our hunt.
Among others, public appearances of hunt members and hounds include
the 1984 Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California, the 1991 and 92 Reno Livestock
Event Center Hunter Jumper Gamblers Choice, and the 1998 DG Bar Dressage Show in
Hanford, CA. Our hounds have been featured in National Geographic, The London Sunday
Times, and Spur Magazine. Recently we have been seen on television in Outdoor Nevada and
John Tysons Rural Nevada.

For members of the Red Rock Hounds, following coyotes with hounds
does not involve killing; it involves immersing ourselves in natural beauty while we
experience an enthralling relationship with animals. |
