The FOR PETS' SAKE Story

FOR PETS' SAKE started quite by circumstance in February 1989.  The founder, Sara Petersen caught a glimpse of an unfamiliar little dog wandering in her neighborhood.  All efforts to catch the small, wet, very thin pup failed.

Two days later Sara located the stray at the local impound facility. doghead1.wmf (3928 bytes)

Arrangements were made for the adoption.  The pup was groomed, spayed and advertised in the local newspaper.  A loving home with a senior citizen was found and  FOR PETS' SAKE was born.

cat.wmf (8534 bytes)The encounter at the impound facility left memories of countless dogs and cats kept in unsuitable conditions with little chance of adoption.  Something had to be done to help as many as possible.  At first, one animal a week was taken from the facility, groomed, spayed / neutered and given a Vet check and vaccinations.   Advertising in the local paper produced a loving, safe home.  Soon two animals were rescued each week and placed in homes.  Expenses were paid from personal finances.  To assist with the growing costs, a donation was requested from adopters other than seniors and the physically challenged.

In May 1995 FOR PETS' SAKE became INC in the state of Nevada and recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit organization.  At present, donations have made it possible to increase our rescues to nearly one per day.

A labor of love such as this has its greatest rewards in the form of wagging tails, sloppy kisses and grateful eyes of every animal given a second chance.
