Here is a letter regarding the possible theft of Khalett. If you have any information whatsoever please contact Darlene Gordon at (250) 334-2031 or (250) 334-1795 (answering machine), or email her at darleneg@island.net

I am looking for my horse. I have been looking for her since Tuesday, July 29, 1997, the day I went on a pleasant, late afternoon ride. My mare spooked at the sight of emus, I dismounted and tried to calm her then tried to take her past them. She spooked again and pulled away, bolting back down the trail we had just taken. I followed her galloping hoofprints through the trail and down the middle of the gravel road. I could see plainly where she had been, and where her galloping hoofprints slowed and stopped. I should have found her grazing there, or possibly making her way back towards me, but she was gone. No one has seen her since.

An intensive search was carried out for eight days by dozens of people on horseback, motorbike, ATV, by foot, by airplane and even helicopter and canoe. I have given out posters, been interviewed by CHEK TV, local radio CFCP and local newspaper Comox Valley Echo and the Campbell River Courier. So far I have come up with nothing.

I have been forced to expand my search. I realize now that my mare could be anywhere which is why I am using this web page to expand my search. It is very possible someone has my mare and does not realize she went missing. They might have bought her in good faith. If you have purchased a horse since the end of July, or know of someone who has, which answers the following description, please contact me. I am offering a $1,000.00 reward for her return.

Khalett is a registered Arabian mare, 14 years old, 15.2 hh. I raised her from a foal, I have her mother. She is bay, with heavy roaning in the flank area extending to her shoulder. Her white markings are very distinctive - Large star, narrow strip and snip on to left nostril, upper and lower lips. Right fore pastern, left fore pastern, right hind partial fetlock, left hind partial stocking. One the crest of her neck halfway between her poll and her withers on the left side, is a white spot about the size of a quarter. She has a lot of white hairs at the base of her tail. All four hoofs are paricoloured. She has small windpuffs on both hind fetlocks, on the black fetlock it can be seen more readily. On her left hind white half stocking she has a fungal infection which has been an ongoing problem. Left untreated it will spread over her hind leg and cause problems.

If you think you have seen this mare please contact me at the address, phone number or email address listed below. I am offering a reward of $1,000.00 as that is all I can afford at this time. I'm sure all of you who own horses can imagine what I am going through. Never in my wildest dreams did I images something like this happening. It has taken the joy out of my life. I can think of nothing else. Please help.
