| BIOMECHANICS IMPROVES THE PERFORMANCE OF BOTH
THE HUMAN & EQUINE ATHLETE Scheduling both human and equine sessions in Northern Nevada from November 15-23. Email: sma@powernet.net Biomechanical analysis and subsequent corrective retraining has been an
approach used to aid human performance for a long time. This procedure was first used to
increase the range of motion and flexibility of dancers representing the United States in
international ballet competition. The success of the work rapidly spread to development
programs for Olympic athletes as well as to orthopedic applications which include
rheumatoid arthritis, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and spinal herniation cases From 1994-98, corrective procedures developed to enhance the technical ability of the international level dancer in ballet were adapted into dressage and hunter-jumper specific training programs for both horse and rider. This work was formally introduced as an equestrian development program at the USDF Adult Camp in Boise, ID in 1997. This years program at USDF Region V Adult Camp in Jackson Wyoming provided USDF University Credit for the lecture presentation on "Biomechanics and Structural Analysis of Both Horse and Rider." Stephen Apatow, Biomechanics Specialist & Technical Consultant will be scheduling both human and equine sessions in Northern Nevada from November 15-23.
