Directory | Home Page | The Aceman Camp Swampy 5725 Whitman Street Carson City, NV 89704-9561 Dear Mom, It is already snowing!!!!!! And if that was
not bad enough, I am sure after what I tell you, you will pick me up from here and take me
back to California!!!! Last Saturday, I saw weather like I have
never seen before. If Shirley lived on either coast they would call it a hurricane or
typhoon. If it was in the South they would call it a tornado. On the national news today
they talked about 70 mph winds in Texas doing so much damage. Well, let me tell you the
winds were sustained winds of 75 mph on Saturday with gusts as high as 115 mph.
It missed the power lines but the power was out for 7 hours anyway cuz a bunch of power poles blew down. We were lucky here cuz Shirley's barns are set up for high winds so she didn't lose anything nor were we put out of our corrals or barns. Some of the neighbors weren't so lucky. Two horses one block over that I happen to be friendly with were severely injured. One horse's neck was cut by flying roofing and my other buddy caught hurt with flying rails. The block behind that had entire barns come down like houses of cards. I am really glad that Shirley understands the powerful forces of nature. If our paddocks and corrals were made out of wood instead of pipe panels we all would have been injured. It gets dark so early, that was one of the scary parts cause her night lights always come on automatically but instead we had to eat dinner in the dark!!! Shirley had candles going in the house (I could see cause I wouldn't let her catch me to lock me up so I stood by the backyard gate) I drove her crazy cuz I kept whinnying for her to come out and keep me company. The wind sounded like a freight train. I was the only one to be upset, more so cuz she kept calling me a cry-baby!! After these horribly traumatic event on Saturday, why did I have to go to work on Sunday? All the young horses were well behaved, and I got in trouble for spooking at everything. No sense of humor!! It has been frosty in the morning and that hasn't worked any better for an excuse than the wind was. I remember the good old days Shirley weaned the "funny filly" the first week of October. She is 18 months old now and is really upset that her mom lives next door to her. Fancy told her she was lucky, as Fancy did not get to stay next her Mom cause she had gotten hurt and had to be weaned as her mother wouldn't let everybody doctor her twice a day. Chief (Fancy's mom) is going to foal again in March of '99. So far it has been 2 bay/white tobiano fillies, one black and white filly, and two black/white colts. Anybody wanna make a bet????? Shirley says bay/white tobiano colt. Everyone else says black/white tobiano filly. Time will tell! Gotta go, I have to go harass the arab stallion that has an attitude. It is a dirty job but somebody has to do it! Hey, that reminds me, speaking of dirty jobs, that cement slab in front of the backyard gate looks really inviting Love ya, THE ACEMAN |
