Dear Mom,

I am sorry that I haven't written since Thanksgiving, but I am one the few still getting riding all these winter months. At least it has not been as cold as the horses say it gets. Those old mares stand around and talk about foaling with highs of only 11°F during the day and below zero at night. They say it has been warmer with more rain than usual (usually it's snow) the last four winters. Old Mysta says it is because of El Nino. El Nino musta been a horse before my time cuz I haven't ever seen him here.

On December 29, 1997, we lost old Elmer Fudd (the white goat). What a bummer. Blue was really sad, cuz Elmer had lived with him the last five years since Blue was gelded. I will not repeat the comment Tiger (the stud) made about Blue. He was 13 years old plus 10 months. Shirley was really sad for awhile but that just meant extra miles for me. She likes to ride when she is sad I guess. The real Bummer was that there are no more movies at 1AM anymore cuz Elmer was the only one with hooves small enough to operate the VCR and TV!

I have a new girlfriend named Razzy. She is an Arabian mare. There was a big hoopla about her papers but she is still here. If they breed her to Tiger then she will move to the front row. I will still get to visit when I am turned loose. Maybe they will let me play with the baby…………

I played with Happy's baby one day when they were putting the two of them out in the pasture. Who ever put me away forgot to chain my gate and that latch is nothing to undo if you want to be loose and playing!!!

You should have heard Shirley when she was trying to catch either me or the filly while we were playing. We ran her around until she could not yell any more and then I let her catch me. That was a whole lot of fun!!!

Speaking of fun, you should have seen the ruckus when Boomer opened up Chief's and Oreo's gate at 5:30AM. Chief did not want to go out (almost breakfast time!), Oreo would not go out without his mom, and Boomer went in with them and shut the gate behind himself. Shirley looked out the window with her coffee cup in hand, rubbed her eyes, looked again and freaked out. I wonder if it had anything to do with Chief kicking out 48 feet of fence one day……… She opened up the gate and ordered Boomer out. He meekly came out and she chained the gate behind him. She turned and looked at him and Boomer left the country ! For once it wasn't me that was in trouble!

I am so proud of myself!!! I can now open three out of six manger doors now, and share meals with my friends! Shirley thinks that Tanya isn't latching them after feeding buckets in the mornings, ha ha.

Shirley still thinks she is dragging me out to Fallon to ride around at the April horse show. So I have been a butt to ride (not bad just naughty) the last few rides. She is taking Mia, Bana, and Boomer so one of them can cart her around. We will see who has the final word here…..

Love
