| Each month HORSE REVIEW.COM
will be spotlighting a different trainer. As a horse owner or potential horse owner, it is
important to have a great deal of information available when we choose the person or
persons to entrust with our equine friends to. There are many trainers and horsemen in our
area that have a great deal to offer. There are also many excellent riders as well as
competitors in the Northern Nevada area who are considered world-class. We will be sharing
some of their stories and backgrounds with you. David & Machele Howard
Machele has been riding since she was
a baby when "my mom put me up on a horse and tied my hands to the saddle horn".
From that day on, Machele has been riding, going to rodeos and helping young horses become
equestrian athletes. She has made her love of horses and her desire to compete a lifelong
commitment. Both of the Howards comefrom a long line of horse trainers, breeders and
competitors. Machele is a fifth generation horse trainer while her husband David is a
fourth generation horseman.
Machele specializes in the rodeo events.
She spends most of her time teaching the skills needed to compete in break-away roping,
pole bending, barrel racing, and goat tying. Her favorite students are the children and
horses preparing for Junior Rodeo, 4-H Events, and Gymkhana Shows. She is a working mother
of three girls. Two of her girls also ride and run barrels on horses their mother has
trained. Machele was ans instructor at Lassen County Community College, in Susanville,
California. During the five years that she was there, she taught horse husbandry and
coached the college rodeo team.
She was also a fitness instructor for
several years. Machele has been to the National High School Rodeo Finals and the National
College Rodeo Finals. She is currently competing in local and regional barrel events. She
is currently training two barrel racing futurity horses of her own.
David specializes in starting young
horses and fine tuning your working horse. He feels he starts his horses the gentle way,
using kindness and discipline. He is also a trained farrier.
David is currently competing in the
P.R.C.A. circuit as a saddle bronc rider. He just recently won the saddle bronc
competition at the Indio, California Rodeo.
David and Machele also breed a few select
mares each year. They stand Our Sir Prize, an APHA Supreme Champion. The Howards are
located at the H Quarter Circle Ranch, 350 Sheckler Cut-Off, Fallon, Nevada. If you would
