IV. Definition of "Animal"

For the purposes of responding to animal issues during disasters, "animals" are defined as, "affected livestock which includes: all bovine,.equine, procine, and caprine species; poultry or domesticated fowl or birds; dogs; cats; or other animals domesticated or under the control of man; and captive wildlife. This definition excludes non-captive wildlife. This is the definition that will be used for state level response activities. It is suggested that you use a similar definition in your county animal plan in order to eliminate confusion as to the types of animals rescue efforts will be directed towards.
