| Reno, Nevada- Our
local Red Rock Hounds will be departing from Reno on March 29th, 1999 to
participate in "The Western Challenge." They will be one of a total of six
participating packs of hounds competing for a cash prize of $1,000, which the winner must
donate to their charity of choice. If the Red Rock Hounds should win, the money will be
donated to the Nevada Womens Fund. The judges for the competition will be flying to
six different locations to judge each pack hunting over their home terrain
except for
the Red Rock Hounds. Lynn Lloyd, MFH has opted to hunt her pack in Wyoming and to be
judged while doing so. Her hunt will be the most disadvantaged and put to the greatest
test. The Red Rock Hounds will be following the other hunts
of the competition and traveling (with horses and hounds) to Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming,
and Nebraska.
The first of the series of hunts begins on April 1st in Flagstaff, AZ and ends
on April 11th in Nebraska. They will be returning home to Red Rock on April 15th.

The Red Rock Hounds will be hunted by Lynn
Lloyd, MFH over Mrs. Shoemakers Weybright Hounds country. Fifteen seasoned couple of American Hounds and the Red Rock staff will travel
to Wyoming to face the challenge of hunting an unfamiliar fixture. Accustomed to the high
desert of northern Nevada, the hounds normally hunt coyote in vast country covered with
sage brush at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. With a strong Walker background,
the Red Rock hounds are a fast, keen pack. Their excellent voice and nose have been
selected over 19 years of breeding, and enable them to hunt impressively despite the
challenging terrain and scenting conditions they face daily.
This opportunity to share hunting experiences with packs throughout
the Rocky Mountain District is a unique and exciting one. The Red Rock Hounds are
especially appreciative of Mrs. Shoemakers generosity in allowing them to hunt their
hounds across her country. Hopefully they will show good sport to all in their Wyoming
debut. |
